Join the B Lab Africa Board

B Lab Africa is seeking experienced and committed individuals to join its Board of Directors. Our directors work to create a culture of accountability, care, and work in service of the organisation. Their focus is on ensuring the viability of the organisation and enabling its success through empowering and supporting its executive. Board members play a vital role in guiding the organization’s strategic direction to redefining the future of work, by creating a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system.

Who do we seek?
We seek directors with diverse perspectives and backgrounds across factors including gender, culture, age, language, personality types, abilities, and education. We believe diversity allows for differing perspectives which lead to better outcomes for decision making, innovation and creativity and decreases the likelihood of groupthink.

You are here to help us create change. Our board supports the B Lab Africa team to meet the needs of the next phase of B Lab’s growth and influence in our region. We need people who are open-minded, with the ability to reimagine paradigms and navigate an evolving landscape. Strong connections within the African business, policy, and/or philanthropy space of the region you are based. You should be willing to make connections and work with B Lab Africa team to build those relationships with the knowledge that creating strong networks requires more than an introduction.

Bring diverse perspectives, competencies and experiences that meet the needs of our organisation. Expertise can be in corporate sustainability, accounting, impact investing, policy advocacy, impact measurement and reporting, or related fields. Financial Oversight: Ability to review and approve financial plans, budgets, and financial reports, ensuring the achievement of financial sustainability. Support fundraising efforts and contribute to the diversification of revenue streams, including through partnerships, grants, and sponsorships.

 

Expectations:
· Capacity to dedicate a minimum of 4 hours per month to B Lab Africa activities.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
· Commitment to B Lab Africa’s mission and values.
· Prior board experience is preferred.

You must be either African or a resident in an African country and must demonstrate a commitment to the values and vision of our organisation. We strongly encourage leaders from Francophone Africa, as well as Southern Africa to apply. Expressions of interest will be received on an ongoing basis, with our intention to recruit an initial 2 new Board members by May 2024 (or earlier) and then continue with further appointments through 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with select Board Members and the Executive
Director.
