Promoting Purposeful
Business in Africa

6 of the world’s 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa, where the B Corp movement is just beginning, yet African-owned businesses are continually underfunded, with workers living on as little as $2 a day. We have the power to change this through B Lab East Africa, but we need your help!

B Lab East Africa is a nonprofit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya working to transform the economy in Africa to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. We are part of the B Global Network of independent and interdependent organizations driving economic system change. Together, we create best-in-class standards, policies, and tools for businesses, and certify companies–known as B Corporations–who are leading the way.

When it comes to helping people and the planet, the power is in the hands of businesses all over the world. The way they operate affects us all. That’s where the B Corp movement comes in.

What are B Corps?

B Corps are a new kind of business, balancing profit with people and the planet. From Danone to Ben & Jerry’s, there are B Corporations everywhere, proving that it’s possible to harness the power of business to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems – but it won’t work unless we all work together.

Why is Africa important?

6 of the world’s 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa, where the B Corp Movement is just beginning. This means that the types of business being created in Africa will soon have the power to make or break sustainable economies and ecosystems around the world.

Despite this, African-owned businesses are continually underfunded and their workers are living on as little as $2 a day. So, although many of these businesses are striving for sustainability, they don’t have access to the funding or the tools to be able to make it really work.

How does B Lab help?

At B Lab, we’re working with these businesses in Africa to provide the tools and guidance needed to create truly sustainable businesses that benefit people and the planet. So far, we’ve directly certified 55 B Corps and helped a further 2,000 through our impact assessment tool, increasing their credibility and making it easier for these sustainable businesses to succeed.

How can you help?

The B Corp movement is gaining traction in Africa but we need your help whilst it’s in its early stages. We’re fundraising so that we can continue operating and aiding sustainable businesses.

Please help us change the game for the next generation of businesses in Africa. Donate to B LAB Africa and help us reduce poverty and inequality for good!
