Who are we?
B Lab Africa is transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. A leader in economic systems change, our global network creates standards, policies, and tools for business, and we certify companies—known as B Corps—who are leading the way. To date, our community includes over 3,800 B Corps in 70 countries and 150 industries, over 8,000 benefit corporations, and more than 100,000 companies manage their impact with the B Impact Assessment and the SDG Action Manager.
We encourage entrepreneurs to redefine business success not just as the profit they make towards shareholders but in the overall impact they have on all their stakeholders. Businesses should consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, community, and environment.
B Lab pursues this goal by verifying credible leaders in the business community, creating supportive tools, training, networking opportunities and infrastructure for others to follow their lead, and collaborating with partners across all sectors of society to build a broader global movement of people using business as a force for good to transform our economy.
Our Vision & Mission
Our vision is of an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet.
Our mission is to accelerate a shift in how business is done in Africa. To redefine business success as not just for profit but also purpose. To encourage businesses to work for positive impact for all stakeholders: workers, customers, community and the environment.
Redefining the Role of Business in Society
A historic global culture shift is underway to harness the power of business to help address society’s greatest challenges. B Lab’s goal is to accelerate this culture shift and make it meaningful and lasting. The business community can be part of the solution to global problems like wealth inequality, corruption, poverty reduction, access to basic services and restoration of the environment. B Lab works to create viable alternatives to an economic system that is failing to create these solutions. Our certified B Corporations (B Corps) are led by visionaries who are committed to this purpose driven way of business.
The Time for Transformative Purpose Driven Business in Africa is Now
The potential for business to play a transformative role in solving the continent’s biggest challenges has never been more opportune. Currently, 6 of the world’s 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa. 40% of the global population growth will be in Africa by 2050 and more than 50% of Africa’s population is under 20 years old, making it the world’s youngest continent – in comparison only 28 % of the population of China is under 20.
Now’s the time to turn words into meaningful action and build a regenerative and inclusive economy that works for all. By shifting the culture of business, we can solve Africa’s biggest environmental and social challenges. Business should compete to be best for the world of the people living in it, and the natural environment on which our quality of life depends. But at the same time this economy is built by everyone who works for, buys from, invests in, learns or teaches about, or supports businesses striving to create a shared and durable prosperity for all.
